Exercise while being injured

Recommended Posts

I got banded on September 24th, then while at work on October 8th I fell down some stairs and injured my right ankle. I was in a boot for 3 1/2 months. After getting it off i was still a little shaky, so finally at the beginning of March, i started working out regularly (a lot on the Wii, just dance is amazing!) at least once a day for 30 minutes. The 3rd week in March I went to Mexico for Spring Break and on the first day slipped on a wet tile and broke my leg. I'm in a boot again on my right leg and will be in it for at least 6 weeks. I find it frustrating that I can't exercise like I need, and have been getting really no where with my weight lose. I'm start to lose hope.

I guess I just wanted to see if anyone out there has any ideas for exercise that really don't use your legs (at least one leg) , and will still help me burn calories. It's just extremely tiring and depressing to have gone through the pain and frustration of the band to be stuck in the cycle of getting injured and just kind of sitting around and not being able to do anything..

How about lifting 5 lbs weights. also I heard of a show called sit and be fit. I think it is for the elderly, but at least it will keep your range of motion up.

Google chair exercises. I believe sparkpeople.com has some information on these or your local library may have some DVD's that would be helpful.

Hang in there.. you've had a run of bad luck, it's your turn for good things to happen now.

Lift weights and look into chair exercises.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
