Need some help-5days post-op and VERY SICK

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I am 5 days post op today, and just started my full liquid diet, I had some Soup for lunch, and it made me incredibly sick. I have been in the bathroom all morning (Gross, I know), and I am shivering cold, but have 3 blankets on me? And my body aches, and everytime I swallow, I feel like I have a lump in my throat (which I dont, it just feels like it) and there is gurgling coming up my throat. Im very un easy. Not sure what to do? Is this normal? I dont feel well at all. I would appreciate some help :)

I would call your doctor to be on the safe side. I did not have any of the symptoms that you have mentioned. I had my first fill today and the other patient that were waiting with me said that she had to have a slight unfill following surgery because they felt sick often. I hope that you are on the mend soon.

you need to call your doctor asap. if you have chills, you might have a fever which can be a sign of infection. call your dr and let them know. maybe they can get you in to see the dr soon.

Ok, I called and left a message for the nurse, she should be calling back soon. I feel like I have a fever, but I cant tell because my hands are ice cold. I dont think I have anything in my band yet, Im pretty sure its empty. (At least I think so.) All I want to do is sleep but can't fall asleep. I know the flu is going around here, so hopefully I dont have that!

I cannot help but wonder if your body picked a most inopportune time to get the flu. I hope you get the help you need and feel better soon!

Be sure to speak with someone at the doc's office TODAY. If this is not the flu, then I would have to agree with PaminLA, sounds like an infection. How are your incisions looking?

It sounds like you have a fever. I would get to ER or your Dr ASAP. To be feeling like this so soon after surgery could be serious. They need to check you don't have an infection and you probably need antibiotics.

The lump in the throat could be caused from fill combined with post op swelling. If they have prefilled your band get them to take it out.

Good luck, please keep us updated.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
