Recommended Posts

hello my name is Kami and im from california, im 23 years old i am a mother of a 4 year old boy. i have a dr appt tomorrow 4/1/11 to talk about getting started with the lap band!! i am 5'5(ish) and 265lbs. i am really hoping i am approved, i am borderline diabetic(if not there already), my hip gives out all day every day, i cant walk when this happens, my ankles are swollen by the end of the day from all the walking i do at work. I feel very tired all day long and i seem to be always cold, which i have been told has something to do with poor circulation which is because im over weight. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun to loose weight and all i can seem to do it lookse Water weight of like 3lbs and i cant seem to go any further no matter how hard i push. i went to the gym 4 days a week did tons of cardio and little bit of weights and ate healthy, that didnt work. diet pills, tried them all, that didnt work. no carb... ya didnt work either!!

i am really hoping i am approved and get the ball moving so i can have a better life for me and my son!! i called my insurance (IEHP) and they said they WILL pay for it!! i was so excited and shocked they will pay!!

for everyone who has been through this already does it sound like im good for it??

thanks :)

So you BMI would be in the 40's, making it likely. From what I understand many insurance companies require a comorbidity (specifically uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled high BP, or diagnosed sleep apnea) for a BMI of 30-40, but many also require if even with a BMI >40. Some may also require a 3-6-or 12 month medically supervised diet. The only way to know if to have the surgeon submit paperwork and see what insurance comesback with.

I was denied with a BMI of 54 and sleep apnea...appealed it and was approved.

wow so being over weight isnt enough for them?? thats ridiculous!! i have done so much research that said its better if you have all those problems but being over 100lbs is the key. hmmm that kind of scares me!! im so nervous for my apt tomorrow, if i dont get this surgery i will be over weight for the rest of my life!! and in a few years i want to have another baby and i dont want to add more baby weight on top of my weight now! i gained 100lbs being preg alot had to do with gust diabetes

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
