Depression and Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

I have had depression for YEARS now. I'm on meds for it and they help most of the time, but lately I'm going through a rough spot and I'm depressed even with my meds. I think it's just temporary and it's due to a financial problem/situation but I'm hungry all the time, craving sweets constantly and I can't control my eating.

I know it's directly related to the depression/stress because I was doing fine before this. Those of you that have depression, how do handle it?

I'm sorry you are having a rough time right now. I was depressed for a long time, and was on meds from like age 12 til 22, but stopped them because I felt no better on them. I think my depression was kind of physical and not chemical or something, because ever since I had this surgery and really decided to change my life, my spreading has vanished

I have a long history of depression and have been medicated on and off since the age of 14. I'm not on medication now and definitely noticed my depression rearing its ugly head after the surgery. I just chalk it up to tons of life changes at once, including losing my job, getting engaged (which is a good thing of course) and having my main source of comfort (food) taken away. I just take it a day at a time and see a therapist once a week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
