I haven't been stuck, but i'm fairly sure it's immediate, when it can't make it through your band it comes back up like WHOLE with some slime on it.

It can be either immediate or take a few minutes to happen. I have had both occurances. Both are miserable so not something that is a desirable happening!

Good luck to you if you don't know and have never had this happen! Keep pineapple juice available in case it does, though. Karen

I've had both; immediate and after a few minutes. Sucks! Not everything comes up though, at least not for me.

It's no fun. Both immediate and delayed can occur. I'm usually pretty good w/ bread, but the other day @ Pei Wei I tried these vietnamese salad rolls. Well, whatever they made that wonton wrapper out of bound up really good as soon as it hit my band. It was extremely uncomfortable. Had to make a b-line for the bathroom and it came up fairly easily, but with lots of slime. It wasn't pretty. Those are the reminders to chew thoroughly!

I've had both too - it just depends. But, you always know - there's never any confusion, believe me! LOL

It can happen any time. It's good to remember the foods that cause the problem, and avoid them completely.

I can't eat bread, chicken breast, beef. Everything must be moist, or it will not go down.

I am learning to eat other foods in place of what I can't eat.

For me, it is most often immediate, but can take some time as well. It all depends on when the offending item hits the stoma. It can last a few minutes and then go down, or it can go on for a long time--then the item come back up.

Either way, it is no fun.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
