Has anyone had an allergic reaction to the band or port? I feel that I may be due to itching everywhere, my incisions are red and my doctor prescribed me some prednisolone which worked for the few days that i was on it and now the symptons are back. I am itching everywhere on my neck, stomach, back and legs. Please someone let me know what to do because when i speak to my doctor he said it is a very small chance that i am allergic to the band but can't i be allergic to the port if not the band? I need answers and help! Anyone?

Do you have any other allergies? I ask because itching all over can also be an allergy to really anything. Trees, pollen, grass, dust etc.

If nothing else see an allergy specialist and they can pin point EXACTLY what's causing it.

Could it be from the iodine?

What iodine?

I have heard of people having reactions to it, but you should take to your doc.

They use it to clean the area before surgery.

Oh ok, well I dont think so because I had my gallbladder out one month before getting banded. I throught it was the strips they put on the incisions but it should not be back if that was the case and also they use the same strips on my incisions when i had my gallbladder out and that did not make me break out so I am so confused on what is making me break out like this. My doctor was even puzzled so now what to do? I think if they can not find out what is making me itch and rashes i will have to have this out immediately i can not take the itching it is extremely uncomfortable. Help anyone with advise on this?

I got a terrible rash from the surgical tape that they used to mark off the "surgical field". Raised welts and everything. Really was the worst part of the surgery for me. So I guess I can't complain to loudly.

I do the itching thing with certain pain meds, just a thought if you still happen to be taking any.

I did the same thing. Mine started red them turned to a rash and tiny bumps. They went all the way to my sides. Mine was a reaction to whatever they used in surgery. I'm assuming a combination of dermabond glue and iodine. Lotion really well and take a benadryl. I used calamine lotion and a benadryl. The rash and bumps went away after a week and a half but the redness around my incision stayed for like three weeks and eventually turned a deep red almost purple then just faded away. Try your hardest not to scratch it. I know it seems impossible.

Just took benadryl so hopefully with this morning appointment with my doctor at 8am will help solve this problem. Glad you posted your experience. It really helps feeling like i am not the only one. Thanks!;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
