Previous gastric bypass surgery

Recommended Posts

at the age of 19, (which was 22 years ago), I was 328 lbs, and I got the gastric bypass surgey. I was successful at loosing 80 lbs, but then started putting back on weight and I've been stuck at 275 for years and years. I continue to have issues with reflux and it's not consistent. I'm wondering if this new surgery is a different venue for me that might work better. I'm really considering my options as I've never been at an ideal weight. diets after diets just haven't worked.

anyone have advice as I ponder this decision?

Well, I'll take a stab at this. Maybe with 2 kinds of Bariatric surgery you can be successful.

Also let your surgeon know about the other surgery, and he might tell you that they have come along way since the days of old.

He would probably have some good ideas, or suggestions. I'm sure they can put a plan together.

Good Health To You, Shirley.

Do some research on band-over-bypass (BoB), though really sit back and consider *why* you've regained. Another WLS won't work if you aren't committed to the lifestyle change. Good luck!

I keep reading about more and more bypass patients...and sleeve patients...getting the band to control the hunger. If hunger is an issue, the band may help with that. As Reverie said, you should take a serious look at your eating habits because the band might not be the answer...or it might be.

Every Time I go in for a fill, I have less, and less Hunger Issues.

I have said this before. This is a step by step process. A lot of people say they are still hungry, it doesn't help

their appetite. Some of them (CAN'T SPEAK FOR ALL) want to be able to eat all different kinds of foods. So

they feel the hunger.

I like it tighter, this way like I was taught You get hungry maybe every 5 hrs.. With the band, it's 4 ounces tops.

So I learned that it depends on you, and what you want.

Please don't take this the wrong way but have you considered therapy? I firmly believe it is helping me immensely. Also, if you identify as a food addict maybe consider food Addicts Anonymous. Www.foodaddictanonymous.org

Best wishes to you..

If you already have reflux problems, the band may make them a lot worse. I never had problems before my band but I've become a master puker since. food sits higher in your stomach with the band, making the chance of reflux higher.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
