Waiting for Approlval

Recommended Posts

Ok, So I'm waiting on approval from Tricare North! I've been through everything already, the consultation, the endoscopy surgery, the phys reveiw and pre op dieting now! They told me Monday they were submitting everything and I'm scared to death I'm going to get denied! I have all the correct paperwork, 6 months of supervised dieting, been obese almost my whole life, 5'4 260lbs! Any advice on thinking if I'll get approved or not?

I have TriCare North RS and I was approved after 2.5 weeks! You did more testing than I did so I would think you wouldn't have any issues. What is your BMI and do you have any comorbs? After 2 weeks I started calling them and bugging them :) It really helps!

I have tricare north too and was told I wouldn't have to do all the testing that she did. What did you have to do? I am new to this process and hear so many different things.

Thank you,

Well I don't have any comorbidities but my BMI is around 46-48%. I don't know if it contributed but I also did WW for about 6 months at the beginning of last year. The only doctor visits I did were:

1. Consultation/First meet with surgeon

2. Psych Eval

3. Primary doc visit with letter of medical necessity/approval from doc stating lapband was a good idea

4. I also got a physical and a lady exam that next week with some general blood work since I hadn't been to the doctor in so long (about 2-3 years)

After all that they submitted and 2 weeks after that I called to see what the holdup was (they said to wait 10 business days...and I did) and they said my file had been misfiled and it was a good thing that I called! That was a Wednesday and by Friday evening I was approved!

I'm currently waiting for my doc's office to receive the approval letter from tricare (it was supposedly faxed but I haven't heard from the doc's office yet) if they don't receive it by next week, I will just fax them a copy of my approval letter ....if I ever get it! lol

My BMI is 43 and as of right now I don't have any comorbs but I'm definitly heading down that path. I'm getting really upset because all insurance can tell me is it's still processing and I went trough so much to get this far. Having the phys reveiw and the endoscopy surgery & now theyre telling me I need to have a PFT test , chest xray and tons of blood work done! I've already did so much blood work in the past month I don't think I can give any more blood. I don't know I'm just getting frustrated and about to say forget it! I want a new life and a new me but going through all this trouble just to get approved is horrible!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
