I was Banded on 3/4/11 so I'm only 9 days out but I can clearly tell when im hungry or head hungry. I stuck to the pre op diet of SF puddings, broths, protien shakes but now Im adding in little bits of cottage cheese and tuna and it seems to keep me satisfied the longest and my stomach hurts less when i have one of these things at least once a day. I was reading the diet my doctor has outlined for me and it says i shouldnt have food like this or even pureed for for 5 weeks?? Am i doing this to fast then and is there any chance of stretching my stomach when its only 2 teaspoons at the most??

No the reason for not adding these foods too soon is not about stretching your pouch It is about allowing your band to heal in place so that it does not slip. Until the sutures heal completely there is a chance that eating foods like this will cause more stomach churning leading to the band slipping slightly in which case the band might not be as sucessful for you and could even slip drastically and need another surgery. You really should stick with your surgeons plan.

I agree you really need to stick with your surgeon's plan.

However, if you're having difficulty, call the doc's office and ask to speak with one of the nurses or the dietician or nutritionist and see if they can approve a modification. Try very hard not to modify on your own (as you're doing).

Don't panic, very few (if any) of us are perfect on the post-op stages.. just call and get permission.

Best of luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
