Need advice for willpower at work

Recommended Posts

Have a cookie, if you deprive yourself you may indulge in something worse.

I always take a large insulated bag with my foods in it each day with an ice pack. I don't put anything in the breakroom fridge and I eat at my desk. The only time I go in the breakroom is for ice, hot Water for my cider, or to heat up my lunch in the microwave. People bring treats in all the time and for the most part I turn them down because I just avoid where they are at. My desk is my safe haven. It has my foods and my indulgences there. It's girl scout cookie time here and I bought 10 boxes. I LOVE those Cookies. I knew I would eat them. I just adjust the remainder of the day. If I want to indulge I must be extra good for the rest of my meals but if not then I don't beat myself up over it. This is my life and will be like this for the rest of it.

I also can't eat donuts or cake without getting stuck most of the time so I don't have a problem with those. Cookies though are a different matter.

Thanks for all the advice! I don't have a desk, I am on my feet all day in the ICU, and I can't eat in there so I have to go other places to eat. Unfortunately I don't chew gum. I'm just going to try to avoid it, there is a different bathroom I could use, so I can try that. I don't like to completely deprive myself, so next time I will have one and walk away.

I do have some will power though. We have a vending machine downstairs which I always stay away from. Also I like m&ms so there is one of those .25 vending machines at the front waiting room, so if I want a little chocolate I go to that. It gives me a little m&ms without eating a whole bag and I don't do it everyday, and I never go to it more than once per day. So I do think that is good of me.

I just remind myself how many people in the office DON'T wash their hands after using the restroom and how I don't want to eat their ecoli treats :)

Pretend their dog licked it and that's why they brought it in. Works for me! :)

They are in the break, should I say alcove. I have to walk

Past that area all the time to go to the bathroom and get food/water for the animals. I'm going to try harder to just ignore it

You can do it, Jess. Don't even look in the alcove as you go by. I made some homemade rolls the other day for my husband to take to work for a potluck and all evening, as I walked by the container of rolls, I'd start chanting "IcandothisIcandothis." I probably sounded like a lunatic but hey...whatever works.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
