I had surgery on March 2nd, while my doctor did the band he also removed my hiatal hernia. Also a month before I had my gallbladder out so I feel all these things out are better towards my progress. I have been doing good for the main part except the first couple of days after the band surgery. I had alot of Gas and I have been on Clear liquids since the 1st of March which was the day before surgery. I have been trying to move around more day by day and doctor's office advised to take Gas X so i am trying that which is helping. I am just wondering about my Clear Liquids to full liquid transition because Wed 9th will be a full week after my banding, should I move on then to full liquid? Or since I have been doing ok with the Soups, broths and other clear liquids is it ok to start making my Protein Shakes out of the Bariatric fusion Meal Replacements I purchased? I also wanted to get some clarification on if I do start to drink the Protein shakes would that take the gas to another level? I dont think i am getting enough protein so thats why i was thinking to go ahead and start on the shakes and Vitamins? But the gas pain is crucial and it keeps me up at night. I see there are alot of ppl on this site that have been though this and can help so please feel free with giving me pointers. I have already lost lbs due to the clear liquids so I am already off to a good start! Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and tips!:D

After 3 days I was allowed to move from clear liquids to heavier liquids. Yes, I relied on shakes from time to time, yogurt, cream soups, etc. This was for 4 days, completing 1 full week. Then for week 2 I was allowed to move on to mushies.

As far as "gas pains", there appears to be some confusion, or mix-ups. There are 2 different "gas pains", one of which is from the surgical procedure, the other indigestion. Gas-X will not help the surgical procedure type of trapped gas at all.

Ask your doctor.. or you should have some kind of book, or materials from them. I would assume it's fine, but I'd call their office or look at your booklet

Mine was a week of full liquids right after surgery, then 10 days of purees. I didn't have a "clear liquid" stage post op.

Walk walk walk!! That helps with the gas :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
