Calories and Fat, How Much?

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me what is suggested as a number of calories, and also how many grams of fat to have each day? I have stopped losing and I think it is because I am not getting in enough fat and calories per day for my body to burn the fat.

Thanks for your input!

I don't know about fat, but I think 1200 calories is a good amount - takes 1500 or less to lose weight, but less than 1200 can slow your metablism down. Check fitday.com and they will give you graphs, charts, etc - everything you need to figure out what's right for you.

I think for the average woman, around 1200 a day is pretty workable and healthy.

As to fat, they say 30% of calories from fat and no more than 20g of saturated fat a day. To be honest, I just keep saturated fat to a minimum, eat loads of fish, tuna, use a bit of olive oil sparingly and eat things like nuts and avocados. I think my diet would be highish in fat, probably more than 30% but its the good kind, the weight is coming off regardless, and honestly, my hair and skin have NEVER looked or felt better.

Thanks Laura and Jachut. That is about what I was thinking. Laura, I too had Dr. Barker and go to Dr. Maese. Best of luck in meeting your mini-goal. I was banded on 8/3 and have lost 60 pounds. I have 55 to go. Best of luck in law school as well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
