What I Wish I Had Known Before Banding

Recommended Posts

Hi!

From your weight loss graph it seems like you started at the same BMI as I am currently (40ish) and there fore are looking at a similar loss to meet our goal. Was it difficult to get approval without being severely or morbidly obese from the start? Do you have any co-morbidity issues? Just curious is all. I am currently at aprox 265lbe and my goal is 175ish. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Sounds like you are doing great! Keep it up. What has your weight loss rate been roughly? Thanks for your response

I don't know if you were talking to me or not. I'm pretty old, 74, but I thought I'd like the rest of my life to

be a little more comfortable so I decided on the band. I had diabetes and a few more so approval

was easy. I had a very easy surgery and turned out to be one of the boring people who don't get

very hungry, in fact at my appointment Tuesday, I'll opt out of a fill because I don't need it.

I've been losing 5-6 lbs a week, that's a little much but I'm not really trying, that's just what it is.

I hope you have as easy a time.

I wish someone would have told me that its easier to burb when you lean forward than letting it be regular. Also that it would burn when you pee after the catheter for a couple of days lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
