Should I get a re-fill?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 1/2 years post Realize Band surgery. I lost 40 lbs before surgery, and another 45 lbs after (8 wks). I had my 3rd fill about 5 months post. I was able to get Water down, yet within 2 days, I was having trouble getting anything down. So I started cheating with soft foods. Then I added dissolvable foods like chips. I would get so frustrated because when I wanted to start doing the right things, I couldn't. I finally had some taken out, but had already got back in the habit of cheating, and with that came larger portions and stuck food. I went back to the Dr and had all Fluid removed. I am now heavier than I was pre-surgery. I am completely depressed and that too drives me to junk. I am at a loss and am not sure what to do. So my question is this.... Do I try and get my band filled again? Is it too late? I am heavier now than I have ever been and am ALMOST regretting the Realize Band. I have 6 incredible children and a fantastic wife! I am so tired of letting them down!

It is not too late. If you feel you are ready to give it another try then you really should. I would go slow with fills and retrain the eating process and habits. If your doctor is supportive, talk to him/her about your issues or if you don't think you can handle the emotional eating on your own then see if you can get counseling. Get support from your family and you have the great folks here for support as well. I wish you all the best!

I'd go back and make sure your band is in good shape. But you have to commit to it!! For me, I do 80% of the dieting, the band helps me out with 20%, like keeping me from being hungry all the time, and limiting my portions a little bit.. But 80% is me controlling what I eat, and how much I exercise. The band won't stop you from eating. Don't ever let it get so tight you can't eat solid Protein.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
