Exercise & Pre-op Diet

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday. I'm required to use Optifast shakes plus a bar each day for the next two weeks. I've been really good lately about working out and have somewhat of a routine going right now that I really don't want to break. It's not much, just two classes and one day of swimming laps or the eliptical.

I was just curious if anyone noticed a loss of energy from their pre-op diet and if they were still able to workout during that time? Should I keep at it or just stop until after surgery?

Not having all that fat, carbs etc holding me back I actually gained energy... the hunger pains are still around and I still crave something to chew (I have been on a 2 week Opti-fast liquid only diet). And the fact that I have lost 14 pounds since I started the liquid diet has helped add a bounce in my step :)

As a side note, I get banded this Friday and am getting very, VERY nervous.

I've been working out in the mornings, and I'm a little tired today, but it's also that time of the month (i know TMI ......LOL) so i can't blame it on the pr-op diet. Anyway I'm down 8lbs.

I would continue the exercising. At one point my doctor even had me on a 500 cal diet (yes that's right 500!); and I kept on working out. I do an hour of lap swiming daily. FYI I use a Water proof MP3 play (look on Amazon) makes swimming so much nicer).

Thank you for the responses!

@NCBandit and Amanda - That's such great news to hear you've both lost so much weight with the pre-op diet! I did hear you can lose up to 20 pounds but wasn't sure if that was true.

@Honk - Thanks for the info on the MP3 player! That would be amazing to be able to swim and still listen to my music!! I've loved being back in the pool and swimming has really helped me get back into the the mindset of working out!

I do feel like I have lost some energy from my preop diet, but my doctor encouraged me to get out and get exercise daily. My diet as a whole includes about 600-650 calories so I am getting WAY less than I was used to. In the last couple months I have been running, but I thought since I am a little more fatigued as of late I have switched to the elliptical. I like you suggestion of swimming. Maybe I will take a couple laps tonight and then relax in the hot tub at the gym.

Thank you for the info. That was my concern, is I'm only going to be taking in 800 calories so if I'm buring 200 on top of that am I going to keel over and pass out on the treadmill? lol! I think it will be ok though and I really don't want to break this streak I'm on....cause let's face it...if it were easy to work out I wouldn't be in this position! lol! You should definitely try swimming! The first day I was very very sore but it was a great workout and something different.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
