Nausea, the new hunger pain?

Hello my fellow bandsters...

I was banded on 2/11/11. I almost got through the surgery experience without a hitch but 6 days post-op i woke up in excruciating pain. After about 20 different tests my pain was ruled nerve damage. It has been a hard road since. However, a few days ago i stopped getting worse and have now began to feel better as each day passes. So with this being said.... Is it normal to NOT feel hungry? I can go all day without eating if i werent so concerned with getting some Protein in.

For the last few days i have really been paying attention to the signals my body has been giving me... And i noticed at the times when my body would make my stomach growl, i now get super nauseus. And for quite some days i would take anti-nausea medicine and lay down. So when i noticed this pattern, i forced myself to eat a bit of something. And guess what? I wasnt nauseus anymore. Weird.

So has anyone else had their hunger pains/tummy growls turned to nausea? Thats the only sign my body gives me to let me know i should eat... And its not a very good one.. Who wants to eats when they are feeling sick to their stomach?

Thanks for your time.

Yes, the band controls your hunger, it presses against the hunger nerve or something? I never get really "hungry" I wouldn't say I get really nauseous... all these things feel different though.

I had nausea off and on for several weeks after surgery but I never connected it to hunger, maybe I just missed that connection. I can say that the nausea episodes did eventually go away, which is good because I have always been a big baby when it comes to nausea. I almost never feel the actual stomach growling hunger sensation anymore, I just feel the signals that my body needs fuel.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
