Lifting stuff.

Recommended Posts

So my banding day is rapidly approaching and I'm wondering. I have a small puppy to attend to after surgery. Will I be able to pick him up after the surgery? I mean not immediately after...but at least like a few days after? What I mean by pick up is like taking him out to pee or to get on the couch. He's about 10 pounds.

Yes no?

If no....what will happen if I do?

They told me I could not lift anything over 10 lbs. The first thing I asked after that was if I could pick up my cat, he's about 11 lbs. They said it should be fine, but nothing more than that. Hope this helps.

I think they mean like straining to lift like boxes and stuff. Cause I can't just not pick my dog up. :/ My mom is only going to be helping care for me the day of the surgery and that night.

They never told me how much I should not lift after surgery. I'm a vet tech and I went back to work 1 week post op and I kept my maximum to lifting 20 lb animals. I had not problems. 10 lbs you should be fine

I was told not to lift more than 5 lbs for two weeks postop. At my 2 week appointment, he cleared me for 10 lb. I would check with your surgeon and go by his recommendation.

I was told 15 lbs. till 6 weeks post op. I wouldn't think your puppy would be a problem but it will also depend on how fast you heal, how much you hurt, and especially what your Dr. says. Does he have a nurse or support team you can call/email?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
