I am a freaking starving maniac!

Recommended Posts

I was band eight weeks ago and had my first fill two weeks ago, 3ccs in a 10cc band. I have lost 29 pounds since surgery and 30 pre-op. This morning I woke up starving and it has not let up all day so far. My band and I are at odds, it is a physical hunger and what I normally eat does not satisfy me. I am going to power through this today and see if it is just a "day" thing. I am thinking that maybe I need another fill already. Also the scale and I are at odds, it has not moved in two weeks. I guess I am really frustrated today. Thanks for listening.

Hi!

I just asked the same question this morning. I was banded 1/14 and had my first fill about two weeks ago. I feel like I am starving all the time. I actually just gained some weight. (I am also dying to get my second fill to get things moving along)

The best response I got today was the following, and it seems to make sense.

It could be that your body is fully recovering from surgery and 1) your regular appetite has returned 2) your body had been existing on liquids for WEEKS and is roaring back to life. Think of how when you're sick and don't eat for a couple days. When you start to feel better your body goes nuts and wants to eat everything.

Do you have a food scale? Even now after many fills I still weigh all my Protein. It is really easy to over estimate and yes I use a small lunch size plate. During this time it IS a diet. You will need to not only actively have smaller portions but also make good food choices. I don't even use the Benecol margarine anymore if I need something I use "butter spray". I've stopped buying nuts (yes I know they be healthy but not when you eat them by the hand full); crackers/cookies (even low fat ones), cheeses (except for low fat laughing cow). Take a good look at your pantry and decide whether a thin person would eat what's in there. If not give it away.

FYI I did not get any restriction until 9.4 CC's. So you COULD be many fills away from feeling anything.

I don't know if you still have your menstrual cycle, but that can play havoc with hunger temporarily. It's kind of hard to tell for you at this point but you might keep track of how hunger fits with your cycle in the months to come (if you have one) and then at least you'll know what to expect :)

Feeling your pain. The nurse at my doctors' office says that you can either feel a fill right away or that it can take up to 2 weeks for it to hit. 3CCs is'nt really that much. My doctor will let me have a fill 3 weeks after the last one. I would call them and see if you can schedule another fill. I think today was my 9 fill. Hoping this is restriction because I am at 10.6 CC's.

Glad to hear everyone about fills. I've not had one yet. Surgery 2/7, so only 3 weeks out. I have lived on liquids and mushy mostly. I get scared to eat anything like bread. I'm sure eventually I will figure it out. I feel somewhat restricted right now as I burp a lot and can feel my port area either from surgery still or from being full. I have no idea. I figured out that I do have to make good small choices to keep losing weight. Lost 15 pre op and 15 post op. I ordered off the kids menu one night and it was so small. Little fish and fresh fruit. Tiniest fish I had ever seen. :)

Thanks everyone. I do use a food scale to weigh all of my portions. For those interested I am eating low carb, it was my pre-surgical diet and just have kept on it with smaller portions focusing on getting my Protein in.

stateofzen: Yeah, I still have my menstral cycle, this has been out of synch for what typically happens.

Thanks again all.

I am hungry being 2 weeks post-op. I just eat frequent low cal meals often. I have pureed veggies, broth & Jello.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
