Lap band removal

Recommended Posts

My band was removed for the 2nd and last time this weekend. I am very scared about future but also hopeful not to have to deal with the band issues as well.

The first time it slipped I had no pain, but had some heart burn and reflux. The 2nd time I had lots of pain and very few issues. With 2 slips there really was no choice but to remove the band. My Dr. is not one for talking much so not sure if there were other options or not. The way I see it is that there is some reason that the band will not work in my body anymore and I am glad that I had it taken out when I did and did not wait until it had gotten worse. Feeling pretty good 3 days out and able to eat what I want. I am glad i had it done and but am glad too i think to be free of the issues of it as well. Back to reg person trying to lose weight.

Sounds like you'd be a good candidate for a conversion to the Sleeve.

Sorry to hear about your complications. I am a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason". I hope that you are able to lose weight without and find that you always had it in you :) I think it is important newbies like me to hear stories from people that had the band removed. Please keep us updated and cheers to no more complications.

My band was removed due to prolapse from vomitting(just a plain unhealthy relationship with food) thin was not thin enough it became an obsession .. The FAT girl still saw The fat girl at a size 2. So I have a great team and they removed it I got treatment and want it replaces because it is soi easy to use food as comfort. the first year out was perfect. Now I know , times are better. Divorce is final.housing is stable life is good So any advice how to approach the surgeopn I see him end of April he was so supportive and I value his word and trust him, but I want the band replaced. I am also type one diabetic and it made my carb counting 100 times easier.. looking for some advice.. I am scared and confused..

My doc told me yesterday I have slip also but he wants to replace and I just dont know . where did you have it done ? my mind is so messed up right now. first thought was to just take it out but then the panic will I gain it all back? But I know what you said to be regular again would be nice but I cant stand the thought of gaining and feeling the way I did. Cardshark :(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
