Hey all... So I just wanted to vent a bit about my emotional struggle lol... I have been looking into the LapBand for a while now, a little over a year, and the last couple months Ive gotten serious about it.... Went to the Dr. and got a packet and got so excited. My best friend got it done and she looks great, and she's doing fine on the payments. My insurance will not cover the surgery, which sucks, but meh, I was willing to pay the monthly payments for this life change. I was scanning through the pamplet for the loan company who finances the surgery and WOW. The interest rate is insanely high... My excitement started to turn into dissapointment. My husband keeps telling me that we'll find a way to do it somehow.... Does anyone know if you have someone co-sign with you on your loan if it lowers the payments or rate at all? My mom is willing to do that... Sorry I know this is me babbling, but I needed some support... Thanks for listening.... Kayla

Kayla,

Keep in mind that you do not have to do your financing through the company that does it for the doctors office. If you are able to get your own funding, such as from your local bank or credit union, that will usually give you a much better rate. Although I am doing my lending through a very generous employer at 3.5%, I did look into a lifestyle loan with my credit union that was running at about 7%. I know that carecredit was at 14.9% and that was never going to happen. I simply refuse to pay that kind of rate and if you have someone willing to co-sign a loan for you, chances are you do not have to pay that kind of rate either.

Ponderer,

Ya, the rate was almost 15% on the one they offered, it was insane! But I looked into my bank and credit union, but they only offer signature loans, and the signature loans are only offered up to $5,000. My mom is willing to co-sign with me, so not sure yet how that can help. Im going in next week to get qualified and all that jazz, so hoping it will work out. Im so crazy stressed about it. I want this surgery so much, its been an emotional roller coaster! But thanks for your advice, I appreciate it very much :)

REDSparkles11: Did you have your surgery? I pursued lap band surgery almost 2 years ago. Jumped through all the hoops, and then 2 weeks before I thought I would be having surgery, insurance sent a letter denying me. Instead of appealing the decision, I let it drop, thinking I could do the weight loss on my own. I have regretted it ever since. I wish I would have appealed it and argued with them til the end. My insurance company stopped covering weight loss surgery as of April 1st, so there is no hope for me to have financial assistance from them now. My only option is to pay out of pocket. Maybe re-fi the house, borrow against the 401K, I don't know. I think it would definitely be worth it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
