Vitamins and other Supplements before Lap Surgery?

Recommended Posts

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hello everyone, I plan on having my surgery about 3 to 4 months from now. Im starting to eat better now and take Vitamins. Can anyone recommend what I should be taking? Im 40 so I guess a Caltrate 500+D would be good to start with. Im confused about what Vitamin, there are so many and they have all different things in them The One A Day Womens has Calcium so maybe thats not good to start with, do I need Iron? Is just a regular multi vitamin ok? Its so confusing? If anyone can give me advice on what would be good for me and also what I can continue after my surgery. Thanks all of you, This board has been so helpfull!

I am not banded yet, but I always take a multi Vitamin along with my prescription meds. I also started taking Melaleuca Vitality for Women (a multimineral supplement) and have really noticed a difference in the pain level in my knees. My sister recommended the Vitality...she's a nurse in a newborn nursery and is on her feet for 12-hour shifts; it made a big difference for her, too. I'm not trying to promote any specific brand...that's just what I use. And i'm sure it is helping my general health so will make recovery faster.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
