sharp pain @ big incision first time today

Recommended Posts

7 days post op. This afternoon I sat down and felt this major pain @ the biggest incision area. I stopped, breathed and it went away. Now tonight I felt it again, froze, breathed and decided to put my binder back on. I'm thinking I'm overdoing things (have to drive this soon. & take care of my kids) or maybe I ate too much or too fast @ lunch? First day on pureed foods. So maybe I overate. But, tonight I'm having my kids help me more even tho only 5 and six. Anybody else have a big pain @ biggest inciison? Maybe its just the incision itself? Kind of scares me.

I had pain at my big incision too and I'm almost 2 wks post op and I still have it sometimes. Mine is cuz of my port. My port is located right beside it so when I turn or twist a certain way I get the sharp pain. It seems like it comes from that big incision but its rly my port beside it. Idk if ur twisting turning or bending when it happens but that's wat mine does. As soon as I straighten back out the pain goes away right away.

yeah the big incision is where the port/band was inserted and then stitched to your ab muscles. If it is just a sharp quick hurt that goes away you are just moving that muscle and it is irritating the stitches. If you have a very sharp burning pain that does not go away after moving suddenly or picking up something that you shouldn't I would speak to the doc because you might have popped one of the stitches holding your port to the muscle.

Wow, thanks for your reply. Gosh, maybe I have done something. Right now I feel okay. binder on. If the sharp pain happens again I'm seeing my surgeon. I've been busy, but have tried to not pick up heavy items, etc. Yesterday I may have tho, as it was Valentines @ kids school with more things to carry in. I have my kids wear their backpacks, but I don't know I may be doing too much. I only had help for 3 days after surgery then left on my own. its been rough with two lil kids. Hope I'm fine, but. Will see dr if pain happens again. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. If ports twist so much is that forever? Kinda scary. I'm taking it really easy from now on. Nothing is worth messing up my surgery! I've already lost a lot of weight, 15 pre op and about 11 post op. I really want to be successful. My kids need me heathy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
