going down a little easier

Recommended Posts

Thought I would share this with you incase you were having the same problems I was having.

Most of the times when it was time to eat and I would be having some chicken or some other kind of meat, it would immediatly get stuck. Not sure if it was b/c I would not chew it enough or what. The other day I was having some chicken and I decided to take my food chopper (pampered chef - manual one) and chop up the food into little itty bitty pieces. When I started eating it, it went down SOOO much easier.

It even helped my "picky" kids eat all the meat on their plates as well. An added bonus!! Just thought I would share with everyone!

A third bonus... can release stress by pounding the chicken!! What a feeling!!

Good thinking. I'll probably do stuff like this, I dont want to change what my family eats too much to accommodate me. They enjoy a roast lamb or chicken dinner etc. So do I actually. And we usually make a great shepherds pie for the next night from the leftovers. If I have to occasionally mash up a family meal (or a part of it) then I will. Other nights they can eat band friendly food but it's not fair to deprive them totally of favourites because I cant eat them - and I've survived 3 kids without resorting to cooking two different sets of meals at night, I'm not about to start now, lol.

I'll have to remember this. Sometimes it hurts to swallow liquids because my band is so tight. And then other times I could eat a horse. This is good info. Especially for the newbies. Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
