Total unfill/slippage/worries

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have posted on here that I am having awful reflux and lately can't eat/drink much of anything. After 3 emails, I finally got a response from the PA today. My Upper GI in November looked fine, so now on Thursday I am having an almost total unfill and then an endoscopy to see what is going on. She mentioned I may have slippage and that sometimes unfilling can allow it to slip back and right itself.....

Has anyone had a big unfill or slippage?

Worried....

Thanks....I have been so pleased and have had no problems all along. Been banded over a year and am down 90lbs.....

(Is it wrong to think about ONE special meal without the fill? LOL)

Hi there,

I just had a total unfill today. I was having a lot of pain and vomitting. I just moved to the area I am in and did not have a lap band doc so I went to my PCP. He was concerned because as he palpated my upper abdomen I had pain so he ordered a CT scan. The scan showed a hernia and a slipped band; that was yesterday. The PCP contaced a lap band doc in town and got me into see her this morning. She did an unfill and then a swallow study. she was able to see the slippage right then and showed me. i have to have a revision.

I hope you have luck and I hope the unfill works for you. Were you having the same symptoms in November? If not, it may be a good idea to do another swallow study?

Take care.

Angie

Thanks Angie. I was having similar symptoms, just less severe back in November. It improved after a small unfill. I am afraid of the hernia/slippage. Hopefully we will see what is up tomorrow.

Hope everything goes well for you. I've read on here where people have had an unfill and their band has gone back into place.

Here's hoping yours is the same!

Take care and let us know how you're feeling.

(I hear ya about having one meal w/o the band!!)

Oh no!!! Tracy, I'm sorry to hear this! You're one of my band buddies back from last October ('09). I cannot even imagine!! Good luck with the unfill. I am praying it's not a slippage. Good luck tomorrow and please let us know how it goes.

That sucks! Hoping too that it rights itself immediately and all is well. In the interim, have a steak for me! And then get back on the wagon, of course...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
