pre-op blood work ABG

How bad is the pre-op blood work that you have to have done before the surgery? I have heard that the ABG Arterial Bood Gas is very painful. I am more scared of having this done than I am the actual surgery.. I know that sounds silly but I am afraid of needles!:unsure:
