Recommended Posts

I just did my sleep study last night and EGD ...came home today and got a call telling my date for surgery is Feb. 25th! while I am excited with this news...I am freaking out because they told me that I need a referral from my primary doctor and I dont have a primary doctor...I just switched insurance on jan 1 ...I now have Blue shield anthem of Calif. ...I dont know what to do! How do you find a doctor that fast to get a referral....this will probably delay my surgery...I am depressed!

No, don't stress!!! BS is great. Call them tomorrow and get a doctor. They can get you in if you tell them your situation and everything will work out!! Find a new doctor or see if your last doctor is covered and go with them. It won't be too difficult.

I found a doctor...who was extremely nice ...ran some test on me and gave me approval for surgery...Yay! I am now on day 2 of my 2 week liquid diet....trying to get through ...my husband keeps telling me not to think of the hunger but to think of the goal....I am seriously trying....Feb 25th seems so far away today.

Good for you! You're going to be ok. Try not to stress. This liquid diet may give you a jump start on your weight loss so try to Celebrate that you are already working towards your goal.

I can have milk,Protein shakes, sugar free Jello or pudding, broth and strained or pureed Soups. I am feeling a little better today (day 3) but it is a struggle...I am getting nervous also ...but reading what others write on here helps me. ....counting down to Feb. 25th!

It's less than two weeks away! Eek!! You can eat more milk products than me. They said I could use fat free milk for my shakes but that's all they said :(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
