New.. Just introducing myself.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.. My name is Angie. I am very new to the Lap Band. I just went to a seminar and took the first step (filling out the paper work) to seeing if I can really get this done. I have been very heavy for about 12 years now and I am tired of failing every diet I ever try. I'm so worried that my Insurance won't cover the procedure and not sure what I'm going to do if that happens. I feel like I am at the end of my rope and I desperately need some help with this. I will be 33 this year. I am 310 pounds and 5'5". I have a little two year old that depends on his Mama to be there for him and I have a husband who is worried sick about me.

So this is the first step. I am hoping to find time everyday to get on here and read all about the lap band and find out as much info as I can.

Welcome!

I'm not banded yet myself but will be very soon. This website is full of information and hundreds (if not more) different view points with pros and cons and tons of expeirence. I have learned a lot on here in preparing me for my adventure. Some of it is intimidating and scary while some is refreshing and uplifiting. I have seen a lot of support on here from members and they are very resourcesful.

Again welcome and good luck on your approval, I hope for you and your family you are approved!! :smile2:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
