Been banded since August

Recommended Posts

If anyone has any advise for me please let me know....I have been banded for almost 6 months and I have only lost about 25lb,and that was in the inital 2 months after surgery. My doctor says I must be eating too many carbs and drinking too much Fluid during meals. At my last fill which was about a month ago he made me feel so bad that I am not sure I even want to go back. I am so discouraged and dissapointed. Has this happened to anyone else?

Well really sit and think what your Dr told you...Only you know the truth behind how hard you have been trying. Have you been eating too much? Do you have enough restriction? Have you been eating too many carbs? Are you drinking with meals? Are you eating enough Protein? Exercise? Do you count your calories? I know it's different for everyone, but do ask yourself these questions and see if that is where you find your issue. I really can't tell you exactly what may be going wrong, but maybe a consult with the nutritionist again may help you...I have lost 92lbs in 11 months and love my band....I have followed everything to the "T" and thank God, I have had no complications.....good luck!

Hey Maria, I was banded Oct 20, 2010, i was doing everything right but it seemed like i didnt even have the band. right at first i lost 10lbs then gained them back. after the first two fills it still didnt feel like anything was different until i had my third fill, boy can i tell a difference. had my third fill jan. 20,2011. i cant eat near as much and i have to chew alot alot. this past weekend, everything i ate no matter how much i chewed it, it still hurt when i swallowed and as it was going down. it was so bad last night i had to lay down until the pain eased off. so today, i just ate soft foods, like 1/4 c.mashed potatoes and a pudding cup. i drank some hot chocolate. if i drink too much Water it wants to come back up. did you have any problems like this, does this pass too. am i doing something wrong? i weighed 209 now i weigh 200. i'm wondering if i should have had the gastric bypass. Need some advice. Susie Q

Everyone is different. Have you tried keeping a food diary? perhaps that might be a starting point. There are folks on this site that have done "everything" right and still had to fight to loose their weight. Unfortunately, bandsters have to experiment to find out what works best for them.

Susie Q. perhaps your stomach might be irritated? Are you eating slower and identifying when you are satiated? Remember we will never know the term "full" as we once knew it to be before being banded. Sounds as if you might be potentially be chewing enough, consistency is what I go by. I know it doesn't sound great, but I loose track of chewing so I go by consistency (applesauce).

Ladies, once again I am not there with you and I am only making some suggestions that you might want to consider. Good Luck!

hi there I was banded in Jan of 2007 and have only lost 65lbs. I too am struggling.I have had my band replaced last year. Some of us have a harder time finding our Sweet Spot. Don't give up! Sometimes we eat foods that are easier to slide down and tend to eat too many carbs.Exercise is important as well. Talk to your doctor again and stand up for yourself!! you paid a lot of money and you deserve to be treated well. Let me know how it goes ...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
