How Y'Doin? Joisey In Da House! Surgeon Questions

Recommended Posts

Dr. Chau is a highly skilled surgeon with a lot of lap band experience. He is with NJ Bariatrics which is a Center of Excellence. I'm going to have him do my surgery and have only heard wonderful things about him. I had my consultation with him several months ago and was really impressed with him. He's young, but experienced, caring and thorough.

I had my surgery with Dr. Bertha and really liked him. I had no problem with his bedside manner. My problem was MOrristown Hopsital. The nurses and staff had no bedside manner. As far as the nutritionist and psych, Bertha gave me a paper with what needed to be done. There were two listed on the paper, the second people listed took insurance. No out of pocket for either, the nutritionist or the psych. They were in Morristown in two differnt offices. The psyc really didn't do much but the nutritionist, her name was Debbie, was really good. Good luck.

Hi all,

Just to let everyone know I used Dr. Abkin. Love him and his office. As far as the psch and nutritionist. Funny everyone has their own opinion. I did not need a psych and just went through the motions. I thought he was a pleasant caring man. However, the nutrionist that someone raved about I will never go back. She acted like she was better than everyone and my husband was with me and felt the same way. And to boot the insurance paid for the nutriionist but not the psych. Guess what - the nice md sent me my money back because he said the insurance was a pain in the neck. So that's my take. now I do know there are a couple of different nutrionists. Good luck. I am waiting for my first fill and very anxious because I feel like I did before my surgery. I lost so far 24 pounds but that was what I lost in the beginning when I first had surgery. I had surgery 1/16/07 and because of Insurance I had to wait 90 days. Good grief and I ready to let this band help me. This site is very helpful and keeps me plugging. I thank all. Lo

Newband,

Dr. Chau is doing my surgery on May 22. Feel very comfortable with him and NJB. How was Princeton Hospital for your surgery? I've heard glowing reports and a couple of problems as well. Also, what time were you discharged the day after surgery?

:clap2: Good luck to us all!

He is excellent and so is the aftercare! I was discharged the morning after surgery. Not a big deal to spend the night in the hospital, the perkocet is great. And truely the pain isn't that bad, more like soreness. I am a week out and feeling great. The hospital is very clean and the nurses were great.

I wish you the best of luck.

I used Dr. Bertha...banded on 1/8/08. Love that group. I am having lots of problems post op ... dry heaving, vomiting, dehydration. Spent the day at the hospital get rehydrated. Did you have any reaction to the anesthesia? Dr. Bertha was at the hospital, couldn't have been nicer. All tests show that the device is in place. Just can't wait for this to pass.

I don't know if you went already, but -you DO NOT have to use Dr. Abkin's nutritionist and psych - you can use the ones at Morristown Memorial. He is fine with their reports. $159 for the psych and $165 for the nutritionist. Let me know if you need the phone number for Morristown. I'll find it for you.

Dr Abkin did my band last month. Happy w/ him and his practice.

Best wishes!

patty-jean - I had dry heaves for several days after my lap band last month. I figured out it was the percocet causing it. Once I switched to tylenol only, I was fine!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
