I am 6 months out from being banded.. and I have only lost around 30 pounds. I feel like a huge failure! I am doing what I thought was right.. but I still get very very hungry at times and I know eat more than I should but I keep it to Protein if I can... I am working much harder than I thought! I have had 5 fills!! I have about 8.5CC in a 14 CC band...

I thought I would be down so much more! the scale does not budge. I have yogurt ( greek) for Breakfast... some greens with tuna or chicken for lunch with lemon juice... and then Protein ( chicken, turkey or fish) and vegs for dinner.. and very tiny amount of Carbs... like a spoon full.

I get really hungry after dinner!! I have a little high Fiber Cereal and skim milk... I drink tea..decafe... with splenda.. I just have not dropped in a couple months. Not a pound...

I am starting to think this band is not working for me... :( Anyone ever have success after a very long plateau? What jump started you....? give me some hope... or otherwise advise...

Hugs for the struggles

How much are you eating - do you have restricition and just eating around it

Are you measuring your food - are you keeping a food diary - are you exercising..

I suggest keeping one - write down everything that goes in your mouth and the calories that go w/it

You may be eating more than you think - or you may not be eating enough.. I kept my calories between 800-1200 a day during my weight loss phase and varied them daily

If you are exercising - then change up what you are doing - increase the intensity and if you aren't then start ;0)

As far as being hungry - I am hungry right this very second - but my actual stomach (pouch is full) - Our bands do nothing for our head hunger issues and the majority of the time that's what it is - head hunger and you just gotta work thru it - being hungry is normal - we can wait 3 hrs before our next meal - it's not like we don't know when our next meal is going to be so that we have to scarf up all the food we can get our hands on until the next meal...

I say I did 75% of the work in losing the weight and the band did 25% by providing restriction - Hell I should up that percentage cuz you know what even w/restriction I could have choosen to eat around it - but I didn't - so you know what 100% of the work was up to me - by changing my eating and exercise habits :0)

I went many months once with no weight loss. I finally decided to just go very very low carb and it jump started my weightloss again. Be sure you are being honest with yourself about everything you are eating. Every bite adds up. When I get lost and fall off track I return to liquids for two or 3 days to take my mind off of food. That always helps me. Just change something about what you are doing more Water, more Protein, more exercise. Please do not label yourself as a failure. I would go in for a fill if I was getting so hungry. You have a large band and it might need to be fuller. Talk to your Dr that is what you are paying him for and see if he can help point you in the right direction. Hang in there!

I have been getting fills thorugh this.. seems like my restriction varies... at first I have some then I lose it.

I have been trying to be low carb... but I wonder if the "density" of the Protein matters?

For example, I have a greek yogurt ( Chobani... 140 cals) in the morning.. say 9:00 and I am ready to eat my desk by 11:00

tuna or chicken for lunch is better.. but I do 3 oz and many times... I still feel really hungry. So I will drink lots of decafe tea ( after an hour)... broth .. anything...

I will try to just keep up on my fills... and I may also need a "liquid diet" jump start... I think I will try that.... It is just discouraging... I will keep trying... I guess.. I thought the band would keep the hunger away much more than is has... that is all...

it is physical hunger.. tummy growling.. empty feeling... not head... I have that as well and I really work hard against that... Thanks for the advise... I love this board...

Yogurt is a semi slider for me - add some fruit or lf granola - or try hard boiled eggs - I'll make an egg beater omelett at home and bring it to work and warm it up around 9ish - I am usually ready for lunch a 11: 30 - very hungry - but what's a half an hr -

At lunch after you eat your tuna or chicken - add a salad or veggies - I had fish & veggies for lunch - Same goes for dinner

I am 1 week out before having the lap band. The statistics that I was given is 40-45% of weight loss of your total ideal weight over 2 years. Are you being too hard on yourself? Don't give up. It's only been 6 months. So if you are 300lbs you will loose about 120lbs over 2 years which translates to 5 lbs a month-which is what you are at now. I have no idea what your starting weight is but this is just an example. You are not a failure, keep trying.

Nina - Let us know how it goes... Another thing to do in between meals - drink - they say that when we are thirsty our brains tells us that's hunger instead - During the winter months I have a harder time getting my Water in - but I make deals w/myself (total head games but it works for me) Example - I will drink my 16 oz of Water before I eat breakfast - and then after I eat (1/2 hr. for me ) I will make sure I drink another before lunch - like right now I am a little hungry - told self - you can't have bf till you drink your water ;0)..

Yesterday was much better... thanks!

Now.. if I can just drop a pound and that will make it all good... No scale till the weekend... I get discouraged... I made a bunch of hard boiled eggs and that will be my "snacks"... I get really hungry in the evening.. ... I stepped up the calorie free liquids... Did seem better....

I want this band to work for me.... I did not realize it would still take so much work to not be hungry..and still lose... trying... and trying... thanks for the support... it really made a difference... :)

Nina - That's what lbt is all about - it's been my support system from day 1..

I'm glad you only weigh in once a week - that's also been my rule since day one too - Thursday is my weigh in day ..

Yep hunger is a terrible thing - but when you really think about it - waiting a few hours between meals isn't really going to kill any of us ;0) - I know that for me about 11:15 - 11:30 I think I am going to die from starvation when lunch is in 1/2 hr - 45 min - When I feel like that - I just say to myself - girl you can freaking wait xx amount of time till you eat - you aren't going to die... Right now I walked by someone's desk and they have fritos - almost stopped and got a handfull - then said NOPE - you are going out to lunch today - you don't need those wasted calories... This is what I would tell anyone here on how to handle a situation - and since I a person who practices what I preach - it help keeps me honest too ;0)

Nina,

I am in the exact same place as you. I was banded in June. I have a 10cc band and I my band is completely filled. I lost weight the 1st couple months and now it has stopped. I am hungry all the time also and if I wait to long to eat i get a burning sensation in my stomach that is aweful. I dont feel that I have much restriction and do not know what to do about it. My doctor told me that my band is full and the rest is up to me but where is the restriction that they say this is supposed to give us.

If I have to work this hard, why do I even have the band I may as well just remove it and do it myself. I feel as if i was deceived and should have went with gastric bypass but now I have lost my opportunity, not sure that insurance will pay for another surgery.

How much hard Protein can you eat at one sitting... That is how you tell your amount of restriction - Can you eat a In & Out Double Burger & fries all at one still..

What are you eating - what are you doing for exercise..

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
