Pre op newbie and all alone

Recommended Posts

Hi all I am a pre-op patient. I have been going through hoops for about 7 months so far. From tests to dieting to psych evals and cpaps ugh I'm still determined to do it though. I guess I'm getting close and still have some questions and concerns that I think might be better answered by actual patients then doctors. So if anyone wants to talk feel free. I'm open to discussing my experiences and hearing yours.

So what are your questions, we are here to answer them from our experiences. I was just banded 12/27, so I am pretty fresh from going through the "hoops" but not the cpaps, I had a different issue. So ask away......

Hi Eko ok I have a few questions. Does your port stick out? My doc said not to worry about it but I've read a few posts where people said it sticks out. I know it may sound stupid but I'm only 26 and self conscious enough let alone having to tell someone what is protruding from my body. Do you feel full quickly? I know thats the whole point but I wanted to know how quick you get full. I'm on a restricted diet now and it's going good so im hoping it stays that way. I think thats all Im really wondering for the moment thanks!!!

HI Kelly,

I was banded on Friday and my port is not visible at all. I can barely finish a cup of broth or a cup of hot tea so in my case the band is supressing hunger very well. I drank a Protein shake yesterday and it took like 30 mins to drink 6 oz and I was't hungry for hours. I actually haven't been hungry at all but I make myself eat and drink Water bc I don't want to get dehydrated. Good luck!!

Nope, my port does not stick out, I cannot even feel mine right now. I am four weeks out and have not had my first adjustment yet, but yes, I have been for the most part feeling full quickly, although I am need of an adjustment and will get one at my next appointment in February. Remember the band is a tool to help you, there is still work you need to do and make sure you put the right food into your body. Good Luck! ~eko

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
