Ok so let me start this by saying I was never a puker, I was never bulimic, obviously or I would not have needed the band. I am 6 months out of surgery and I am doing well, but sometimes find myself over eating, not all the time but sometimes, and I feel AWFUL! All I want to do is get the food out after overeating.. A new trait to me, as I never liked puking, but honestly it seems like the only thing I can think of to feel better. But here's the catcher, when I try I can't... I dont know why but it seems like the food will not come up past my band.. Anyone else experience this or know why this is? Any tips on not overeating? Again this is not a often thing.. Any help welcomed!! Thanks

try putting ONLY the amount you are supposed to eat on your plate. I weigh my food, others measure, others use comparisons to palm of hand or deck of cards.. whichever method you use, put only that amount on your plate. Leave the rest on the stove or in the fridge..whereever. Don't put serving bowls on the table.

Get a minute timer, one of those little tiny hourglass ones would work great. Put a small bite in your mouth, chew very well, swallow and turn the timer. Don't put another bite in your mouth till the sand is gone. Repeat.

Watch for soft stop signs.. they can be anything from a runny nose, to a sigh, to a hiccup. Mine is I start burping. When you get your soft stop, STOP EATING. yes, I know it's hard and I don't always succeed at stopping then. If you're still hungry after 20 minutes you can finish your meal, carefully.

Maybe someone else will have some other ideas on how to avoid overeating. Other than just sheer willpower.. LOL

My meals are planned at least a day in advance so I never find myself standing in front of the fridge wondering what to eat when nothing sounds good. I don't go there since I may not want what I planned, but I certainly enjoy it when I'm sitting down and eating it.

I always measure out the amount of food I know I should be eating. I never just eyeball it. I never go back for seconds.

I also bought myself a special plate for my meals. It's smaller than my china plates so I don't get this visual of "OMG...a rabbit couldn't live on that" feeling. My 10" plate is the perfect size to hold my food *and* give a visual satisfaction.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
