Hey everyone!!

Uhm..I know this is going to sound extremely superficial and almost irrelevant but..

How do you tell you tell people you're getting Lap Band?

My dad and I have a rocky relationship and from past experiences, he does not know when to keep private things private.

Sounds horrible, I know.

Uhm..My question..I guess..

Is it okay to want to keep this a secret?

Is it okay to not want to tell everyone until the time is right?

Is that wrong?

It is your life and your body. You can do what feels right to you.

Good luck and hang in there.

If you're not that close and he has a bad track record of keeping secrets, I think personally I would keep it to myself unless he asks you flat out or you feel comfortable. I struggled with whether or not to tell my family and opted to share, but also know the info will stay within the family. Will not be telling anyone else (at least not any time soon.) Don't feel pressured to tell him if you're not comfortable; however, I would recommend telling someone you trust so you can have that support system along your journey. No matter what you decide, good luck!

The only people that know on my life are my mom and sister. I only told them because I had to - a ride home from the hospital and because there were too many things I would have had to lie about over the holidays. No one else will know - I hope.

Read some of the other threads about telling people. Some people regret telling people, others don't.

My mother was filling out Christmas cards and wanted to know if she could tell the relatives i had "that surgery" done. I told her heck no. I have only told a couple of close friends. i see no reason to share it with the world. If other people comment on my weight loss I tell them jokingly that the Burger King by my house burned down. (it really did) and leave it at that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
