I'm On My Way...

Recommended Posts

I had my first consultation with my surgeon two days ago. He pretty much told me I'm good to go with the surgery as soon as I get approved by my insurance and my family doctor. I know he's already for it since I brought it up with him last month; I just need him to sign the release form. The insurance, however, will require a bit more persuading. They require proof of a psychological evaluation, a nutritional evaluation, and a 6-month diet monitored by my doctor. I'm not so worried about getting the insurance approval, I'm just kind of impatient and I don't want to wait 6 months. But there's no way around it. Looks like the earliest I'll be able to get the surgery is in July of next year. Oh well, at least I finally got the ball rolling. I can't wait for the approval to go through. Wish me luck! :D

And so it begins. That six month wait is the most stupid thing the ins. co. could think up. As if we hadn't tried dieting before! duh! I was self pay so I could skip that step, thank god, but they still made me jump through all the other hoops. If anything it will teach you patience which you will need when it comes time to lose weight. A couple pounds a week is great to lose, but it doesn't seem like much in a whole week, you just have to be patient while those numbers stack up. The six month wait is also a good time to get your life in order for how you want your new life to be. Clean out closets, get the junk out of the pantry, start a savings plan, etc.

Good luck on your journey and keep us posted!

I keep telling my mom to go ahead and at least get the ball rolling so she won't be stuck in that situation. I contemplated surgery for many years and once I finalized my decision, I had to wait too! I hated it but the time flew by really quickly. Good luck. Stay the course, it is worth it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
