Constipation?

Recommended Posts

Happy Holidays to everyone...I have a question, I was banded on August 26, 2010 and have lost 51 pounds so far great for me but I have seen a lot of people post that they have lost about 60-70 pounds in 4 months which is awesome and I understand that each one of us is different. Question, I am feeling very constipated and have not had a bowel movement in a couple of days, can I take benefiber? Or what do you guys recommend? Thank you for your input.

I am totally devoted to Benefiber (or rather the Walmart knockoff generic)!

A tablespoon in my morning tea, and I am very regular - once every other day.

It dissolves faster in warm beverages, and I can't tell it's in my tea at all.

Other Fiber supplements can be gritty, but Benefiber is undetectable in a flavored beverage, IMO. :)

A lot of folks swear by Miralax, but I prefer to take the non-laxative route if at all possible, even though Miralax is mild.

I always use benefiber. You can get a kind even with some b Vitamin in it. ( here is a photo http://alienbanditinkorea.wordpress.com/2010/12/11/presents-presents-presents-bikini-photo/ ) It is great because it has no flavour and dissolves even in Water.

Don't use Metamucil. My doc said this was bad bad bad and I shouldn't use it ( of course AFTER I bought a large container of it :( )

I was told benefiber was fine. I used it for months prior to surgery and was told I could keep using it except for the day of surgery. I haven't needed it.

Did your doctor say why not to use Metamucil? That is what I have been taking.

I believe he said because of the material it is (acidic kind) and expands in your stomach. I even brought it in, to double check he knew what it was and he said yes don't use it.

Thank you! I have some Benefiber so I'm going to start using that. I also am getting me some Vitafusion Fiber gummies someone recommended the other day.

Thank you all for your responses, I went to the pharmacy and picked up Benefiber Drink Mix in the Kiwi strawberry flavor and it's delicious, oh and it's also sugar free, I mixed it in my drink and was able to have a bowel movement...Thank you all and have a great Christmas..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
