Swelling in my band

Recommended Posts

Hi all-

So i did what so many do, and came to Monterrey Mexico for my lapband surgery. My sister had done a lot of research on this doctor, and my cousin had the procedure done two years ago with him and had amazing results.

I had the surgery on Monday (12/13) and I was supposed to leave back to the states on wednesday... its sunday and im still in Mexico.. I'm having a few complications, and I cant find much online about other's experiences with this..

I've had three barium tests, and basically my pouch is not wanting to pass any liquid into my big stomach because its too swollen in there. It feels painful, like constant heartburn and somedays, i can barely keep anything down. Ive been put on IV fluids a few times to avoid dehydration... but I keep getting told that the swelling HAS to go down..

The doctor doesn't want me to fly yet because the pressure in the plane will increase the swelling.. Ive had like 5 inter muscular anti-inflammatory shots in my butt (that hurt) and still my tests dont show much improvement.... At this point, im just scared that they are going to make me have another surgery to fix this. I feel so miserable and regretful.. i wish i didnt.. but im a week into my surgery and not enough progress has come... has anyone else had these issues? needed revisions?

please help, any advice is welcomed. I just wish i was home and in my own bed :(

xoxo

ps- when can i start laying on my side?

Drea,

Do they want you to have another surgery to correct the placement of your band? Have they made sure there is no Fluid in the band (I'm sure they have but feel the need to ask)?

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Is anyone with you? Keep us posted. Hugs!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
