Please help if you can....burning stomach, gurgles

Recommended Posts

I have been having a burning sensation with lots of gurgling in my stomach. The burning is painful and I am uncomfortable all the time. I am hungry but afraid to eat because that is when the burning gets worse. I have an ensure and feel a little better but then I almost feel too full (makes no sense). I had been getting better but went in for a fill last Thursday and the pain was back by that night. I went for an unfill yesterday and felt some relief but not enough. My doc don't know what to make of it. I saw him again today and he did not want to completely unfill me because I am not showing symptoms of being too tight. I have had an endo and an upper GI and everything comes back normal......I have been on liquids since my fill on Thursday. I have been given carafate and now pervicid to take daily as the GI doc thinks it is acid reflux although I explained that I do not have any acid coming up my throat, the burning stays in my stomach. I don't know if I should have the band removed since I don't know if it will fix the problem, especially since the docs truly don''t know what the problem is. It is very draining. I can't take care of my kids, house or even get out of bed when it is at its worse. Hopefully someone will have an answer for this soon.

I am having the same problem!!! I haven't had an endo or upper GI yet. As my pain just started last week. But I get nauseous when I eat or drink anything. They did take out quite a bit of Fluid out of my band though. The carafate isn't helping. I am debating having the band removed, but I was a self pay. So my insurance will not cover anything. Good luck!!

TN - please keep me posted on what you find out about your situation. I feel like the docs just don't get it. I have really had to figure this out on my own. I am finally able to eat some soft solid foods again and the burning has turned into a some what sour feeling. I still have no Fluid in my band and plan on keeping it that way. If that is what it takes then that is how it will be. I have found that pepto and tylenol help me more than the prescriptions they give me. I worry that pepto may eventually give me an ulcer though. I have given up all caffeine and basically can tolerate some Soup, toast, ensure, pudding and stuff that is easily digestible. I hope your docs are able to give you some answers. My GI doc said slight esophagitis but I can't imagine that it is slight with this amount of pain.

Best of luck.

Sounds like what I have been experiencing. However, they found 3 ulcers during my GI..I am on the same meds as you except I'm on nexium instead of previcid. I still have pain and bloating at times but after being on the meds for 2 months I feel somewhat better. The lab report said I have chronic gastritis...I experience alot of bloating and gas. There are times when the pain is so bad I want this band taken out. My Dr. is trying to tell me this is not from the band and won't take it out until we find out for sure what the problem with my stomach is. He believes the ulcers are healed and doesn't have an answer for the bloating & gas. Sometimes I feel I could pop from the pressure. This is not an every day occurance. It happens off and on.

I would continue to take the Prevacid everyday and see if it helps. It comes in Solutabs if you have trouble swallowing pills. Good you stop drinking coffee or whatever caffeine it was because it makes the acid worse. I have acid refux and it can flare up without coming up in your thoat. There is no telling what is actually wrong with you but it really sounds like reflux. I have been getting sick so much since I got banded in February. I can take a little sickness though because I really really wants to lose this weight! Good luck.

Update.....

They took all of my Fluid out this morning. And when I did the barium swallow, we could see that the barium was sticking to my stomach right below my band. I am going to have to have a scope done. It's either erosion, an ulcer or gastritis.

Good Luck!!

I am curious to see what shows up.

I was banded 6/09, I never had any signs of reflux until I got a fill in December 2010. I had not had any fills for 9plus months.

After the fill(1cc)!! I was vomiting ,coughing .....So now after three unfills, I am still having heartburn, reflux, burning in my tummy. Not all the time. So I am trying to work with this and see what triggers it ...if anything??

It can be annoying and uncomfortable. But I am going to focus on my habits and see if anything resolves those symptoms before I go back next month.

Hope you fell better soon!!

I had my upper GI done this morning. I have gastritis, bile acid, regular acid and my esophagus is irritated. The bile acid is from not having my gallbladder. But the other acid and all that has been caused by my band. I'm allowed to start getting my fills again in 4 weeks but I cannot be as aggressive with the fills. And I wasn't real tight to begin with. But at least I have an answer and let's hope these medicines work!

Tn girl did they give you any suggestions for dealing with the gastritis? I do not have my gall bladder, what is bile acid and did they give you any meds for that?

I just got a fill after 4 months of messing with ulcers and gastritis. Had to start all over. The doc gave me 2 cc's. ( Was at 10.5 when I was emptied) No restriction at all. I can eat normal.

They gave me aciphex and reglan. I take the aciphex once a day with a meal, and the reglan twice a day with Breakfast and dinner. The bile is from where I don't have my gallbladder, and the bile doesn't have anywhere to go. All he told me was to avoid spicy food, take my medicine and I have to wait 4 weeks to start my fills and I can't be aggressive about it. I go see my GI doctor in 3 weeks. I am start all over with my fills too. I have no Fluid in my band. They originally took the fluid out to see if it would help, then they said I needed the upper GI. So they would have had to take it all out anyway for the upper GI.

I recently had my gall bladder taken out after months of nexium and zantac, I was checked for ulcer but didnt have any had horrible pains. the worst I have ever experienced would come on randomly often in middle of night , I would almost pass out and vomited up spit. My band was always fine but the pains began shortly after getting it and I suffered for a year. try an ultrasound on your gallbladder, I had sludge but none of the symptoms fit what web md said was related to call bladder but Dr said cant move onto something else untill gall bladder out, my fingers are crossed I am good now- got a fill shortly after my surgery I think it might be to tight it hurts to eat anything but its a two hour drive for a fill or unfill but guess I need to do it- Good luck - have your gallbladder checked

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
