Has anyone had an unfill yet? Tell me about it....oh btw..it SUCKS... i just had it done yesterday:(

Since my last fill in September I have been at 10.5cc's in a 14cc band. It was my sweet spot! I was never hungry, I could only eat a very small amount and I'd be satisfied for 4-5 hours, and I was losing easily. No getting sick at all....but that all changed as of last wednesday/thursday. I had a stomach bug and since then I have not been able to eat ANY food. Even if it was a tiny amount, mushy, and i ate it slow (and even if it felt ok going down)...one hour later it was back up and all liquid ...plus every night i was not sleeping because of acid reflux. It was waking me up and I'd get sick..THEN i could sleep...i needed to sleep and knew all of that was bad for the band..so i had to go in yesterday. The other doctor in the practice (my surgeon was in the OR all day) explained that after a bad stomach bug (ie vomiting) and/or upper respiratory infection it's common for your stomach to become inflamed and unable to tolerate anything...which means you NEED an unfill to be sure you don't hurt yourself! I only wanted like .25cc taken out..he took out 3!:o I wanted to cry right there...I completely understand WHY it had to be done but it's frustrating at the same time.

Now I have to go to a bairum swallow next friday to make sure i'm all clear..THEN on the 23rd i can go back and be filled back up...only i don't think want to go back to 10.5...i think 10 or 10.25cc's is plenty for me.

But what's the most scary part about it all? I'm now down to 7.5cc's (which i haven't had this little in my band since this time last year) and i'm HUNGRY...and I can EAT. And it's only been 24 hours since my unfill! It's scary...very scary at how quickly you get hungry. I'm trying not to stress and I'm staying away from foods I know I can't eat when my band is at it's sweet spot. But OMG i'm going to have to work really hard the next 2 weeks so that I can at least maintain until I get my fill back....

ok so even though it's only been 2 days and i have definately felt hunger (which i was terrified of), i've been ok. I haven't gone crazy with eating at all and I've gotten in LOTS of liquids! I need to go easy and stick with mostly mushy foods and liquids so that my irritation can subside. I go for my barrium swallow friday and then my fill the following thursday...

Got my first unfill due to sickness last tuesday. He took out 2 ccs and i think im gonna tell him to put only 1 cc back. I can finally eat without the PBing and it feels good. I still feel full when i eat a little bit, just not as soon as id like to feel full. Guess Im searching for the sweet spot.

Exactly!! I can eat a small amount and be ok...but I dont' like being ABLE to eat that much. And i HATE feeling hungry...havn't felt that since september to be honest....and i preferred it that way. I only ate becasue it was a necessity and jsut what i needed...no more mindless eating. I WAS at my sweet spot. But Instead of having 10.5 back in my band i'd like only 10.25. That extra .25 i think was just a tweek too much :)

I have had several unfills over the last year. Once it was just an overfill being corrected but the others were exactly as you describe above. In fact, I am online right now because I can't sleep. I gag lying down and have pain sitting up. This is after post nasal drip from a bad cold followed by a vomiting incident on Sunday. I thought I was doing ok but the irritation is too much so I will have to get an emergency unfill tomorrow. I have also done the barium swallow and everything was fine...it was just irritation, not the band slipping. It seems what you want to know is how do you cope without the tool working at its peak condition? The first unfil, I gained 9 pounds in a month. The 2nd, I lost a few pounds in a month or so and the last unfill was perfect. I have lost 17 pounds in about 8 weeks, so right on track. Even if you gain a pound or two during your recovery, you will get filled again and that weight will come right off. After every fill I've felt re-committed to doing it better/right and it has worked. I have lost 125 pounds in 13 months, and that's with 3 unfills. You will be fine. Just live with it until you can get back to where you need to be.

Thanks for that! I know I'll be ok and I'm already up 1...which is not too bad considering it's been almost a week so I'm grateful it's not more..and i'm focused on stayng..well focused on eating only when i'm hungry, only eating small amounts, and staying away from just crap...lol Barium swallow friday..and fill next thursday...YES!

One question tho..did you notice when you got the unfill that you were a little tender after eating? The first two days after the unfill my stomach/band would be sore about a half hour after eating...i compared it to a tight fitted sock...you know, when the ankle band of the sock is too tight, leaves a mark, and when you finally take the sock off, its sore? Even though it didn't hurt beforehand? I don't even know ifthat makes sense to anyone but me...but either way, it's much better now :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
