I'm slowly getting over being stuck tonite - Help

Recommended Posts

I had a 1ml fill yesterday for a total of 4.5mls/10ml band since surgery 10/2. This evening I got stuck on cottage cheese, turkey luncheon meat, 1 bite of sausage and a few noodles. I got stuck, slimed and hacked up the offenders.

I still feel stuck, perhaps swelling? Any insight and advice would be helpful. I need to go to bed and am quite sure I can't lay down.

What to do?

Thanks

Been there, done that, have that T shirt. Have you tried a little Water to see if you can get what may be left to move through? I have also found when that happens that I need to walk around - for some reason that seems to help.

If you cannot lie down, you should consider the ER - I am not a doctor, but that does not sound right.

I heard if you raise your arms above your head that really helps. Hope it gets better.

I am sure you have swelling after being stuck. I keep papaya enzyme tablets with me at all times. Chewing a few when getting stuck, helps to move the offenders down. I walk walk walk and try to get sips of Water down when I get comfortable enough and sure enough within 20 minutes it moves through. I do not have any fill so that might be to my advantage, but you need to perhaps have some liquids for a day or so to get the swelling down. Maybe Protein smoothies would help with the crushed ice, it works wonders for me to soothe the upset that a stuck episode causes me. Good luck and I guess we occasionally mess up with eating too much or too fast. I still have to slow down and not eat like the house is on fire.

FYI my docor requires 1 day of full liquids and one day of mushies after a fill. You might want to consider that route next time you have a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
