HELP PLEASE Stomach Virus after Lap Band!!

Recommended Posts

Well, let me say that I am in a major panic mode right now. My kids and I went to my friend's house last night. Now, her entire family has the awful stomach virus. Her toddler has it the worst and she was drinking after me!! I have only been banded since Monday and am scared to death that I am going to get this mess. What do I do?!?!

Please call your doctor ASAP. You don't want to be throwing up if it's the stomach flu and have it affect your band's placement.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to call my surgeon's office, but they do not have any after hours service. My surgeon gave me a prescription for nausea medication the day of surgery. I feel a bit nauseated right now, but I really think it is all in my head. The fear of getting sick. So, I went ahead and took a nausea pill to be on the safe side. Also, I decided it may be best for me to go back to liquids until I see if this virus hits me. Maybe that will prevent so much pressure if I do get sick.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
