Lisa, So Sorry To Hear This But At Least You Know For Sure Now. I Agree, I Think There Is Something Going On In Mexico That Isn't Right And With You On The Case I Am Sure You Will Get To The Bottom Of It. Just Know I Will Be Praying For You.

I have been told that within the last few mo. they have found that putting the band higher up on the stomach prevents a lot of problems. This comes from a dr. stateside. I have no idea what technique Mexico's dr's. use at all, but it could make the difference. I'm sooooooo sorry about your band.

DeLarla I'm sorry you're going through so much. You definately have people on these boards that love ya and are praying you get the surgery you need and heal up quick.

Because of what I was reading here on the boards about the erosion it was definately a question I brought up in my information night meeting with a surgeon of the bariatric group and future patients. The surgeon explained that bands are made differently now where the edges of it are no longer rough but rounded and the buckle corners were also softened with an edge. He stated that none of the patients they have banded have had erosion problems but that they've had a technique of their own they've been doing. He said when they place them they place that so there is extra skin (per say) between the band and your stomach. NO clue how that is accomplished. I plan on asking that when I meet with him for a one of one visit on Jan 4th.

good luck with everything and God Bless

Sherry

Strange coincidence that Penni, Francesca, Lisa and Myself were all banded 1 month to the day apart in MX with 2 diferent doctors and we all have had erosion. Something to be said about that definately! Penni and I banded on the same day 4/6/04 with Lopez and Ortiz and Francesca 5/6/04 with Lopez and Ortiz . I agree that it hassomething to do with either the MX docs and their techniques or the MX bands.

And, at that time, Lopez and Ortiz were partners, working out of the same office.

So sorry to hear what's happening (((hugs)))

food for thought (without calories)

Hey is there a way to find out the lot numbers on your bands. Each device is issued a specific number. Maybe it had nothing to do with the MD but the band itself???? There are medical recalls all the time. I work for a home IV company and we had a problem last year with a companies flushes, what a nightmare.

Inamed would not be too helpful in making the connection for you I susspect?

Oy vay.... Lisa, so sorry about your problems. I know from my own complications that just having the dang band out of you will make you feel better. And it's given you such a great head start on your weight loss...I know you'll do great band-free.

I totally know that feeling of something's not right. I've had it for awhile now. And I had recent endoscopy and barium swallows with people unfamiliar with the band... how would they know a stretched pouch if they saw one?! I think that's a big part of the problem -- in general -- too many medical personnel aren't familiar with the band and recognizing problems. Only the surgeons are. But they're sending patients to radiologists and gastroenterologists for these procedures... Anyway... I missed my Dr.'s call yesterday to discuss results from recent barium swallow...he said it wasn't an emergency, so that's good. Will update you guys when I know something.

Hang in there, Lisa!

Wow, I really dont know what to say that hasnt already been said. You are a testament to the fact that sometimes we "just know" when something isnt right with our bodies. It's very sad, and seems unfair, that you are having to go through this. As far as someone accusing you of scare tactics...it is scary, the erosions and unbandings that have occured recently. You have no option but to tell it like it is, and hopefully I and others will be aware that problems can occur with this procedure. I just find it particularly disturbing that most of you were banded by the same doctors, and banded in TJ. What is up with that? Is it the way they place the band, the positioning, the band itself....who were these surgeons trained under? Scares the shit out of me, I will be asking for routine tests on schedule. I want the endo at one year and if I ever have the slightest (serious) doubt something is wrong. I hope you feel better and get that unbanding scheduled for as soon as you feel up to going through it. Keep your fiesty spirits up!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
