Really discouraged and mad at myself

Recommended Posts

I was banded 5 months ago and I have only lost 30 pounds. Have had 4 fills but I can't seem to consistently lose. I find I get hungry and will eat more than I should. I am thinking about the 5 day pouch test. I just feel very discouraged. I think I should be droping faster. :-(.

Let's see, 30 lbs in 5 months is 6lbs/month which is about 1.5 lbs a week. Average expected weight loss with the band is 1 to 2 lbs a week, so it sounds like you are just about right.

If you're comparing yourself to others who are losing, don't. Everyone is different. I don't know your starting weight, but keep in mind that those who start with higher weights often lose faster in the beginning.

It's also not unusual to lose a bit and then stop and then lose a bit again. Our bodies seem to need a little time to adjust.

If you're still getting hungry, not having good appetite control for 3 or more hours after a meal (and your meal is low carb, with good solid, dense protein) you may need another fill.

Keep on keeping on. It may seem slow, but you're making progress.

I started out comparing myself with all the fast losers and then I realized this is not a race and now I am happy with my slow weight loss. I avg 5.5 a month if I divide all of my loss from my surgery date and that is great! I am very satisfied because it's a loss and not a gain! You should feel the same way. Just keep moving and don't give up! Eventually those 5lbs a month will add up!

You won't loose if you are eating more than you should.Remember the 4 oz measurement of meals. Refresh instructions again.Maybe focus on Protein more to get you thru your day.

Thanks... I do compare myself to fast losers.. today I am going to try to be really dilligent. I am doing a good Protein Shake this morning and greek yogurt for Lunch.. fish and veg for dinner. Maybe Greek yogurt is a slider? is it? perhaps tuna would be better? Maybe I can jump start myself. I just feel like I should be further along... but maybe this is the nature of the band.. eh? Your encouragement and suggestions really help  thanks ...

I know that I am a newby, but my nutritionist and surgeon are all about eating dense foods. They do not want me to drink the shakes unless I have not gotten my required Protein in for the day. They require 80-100 gm of protein/day but would prefer that I be on the higher end. I noticed the difference in my weight loss when I maintained at least 90gm/day. They also only allow 3 oz/ meal and I eat 5x/day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
