Advice request on first fill.

Recommended Posts

I posted last week about not being able to eat much and was freaking out. Well, I'm fine now after I went on 3 day liquids that made the swelling go down and I am back to eating normal. Thank God!

I need some additional advice from

experienced bandsters out there willing to share.

I am scheduled for my very first fill next week and I am undecided if I should proceed or not. I have good restriction where I really do eat only 1/2 cup of food and I kid you not if I have go over 1/2 cup I get sick. I really do measure because when I go over the amount I end up PBing. My question to you is, should I think about a very slight unfill? I'm thinking this because one other thing that happens to me is when the weather gets cold, I get so tight that I cannot eat hardly anything. I have to drink warm and hot liquids all day in order to get anything down. What would you do? I will be getting advice from my doctor but before I see her next week I'd like some feedback. After all experience makes all the difference. jake

It does sound like you need a slight unfill. It also sounds like you are very close to your sweet spot already (possibly because your stomach hasn't lost much weight yet). So instead of building toward that magic half cup amount, you've been dropped down to a very small amount of food and that is just hard to get used to. Be patient and eat slowly, and take care not to drink with meals; you know the rules. Keep your Protein around 50 gm per day and drink when you can.

The good news is that unlike so many others who wait months and months for restriction, you can just watch those pounds roll off!

Good luck!

See what your doctor says, but I'd be inclined from what you've told us to ask for a little unfill, but not much. somewhere between .2cc's and .5cc's

I'm amazed at the 1/2 cup amount. My nurses say about 1 cup is standard for bandsters. My doc goes by weight and volume: 3oz Protein and 1/2 cup veggies.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
