Help! I need an older bander for advice!

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for just over a year and have lost 97lbs since my decision to have the procedure. 42 of those lbs were lost prior to surgery...I've had my ups and downs, losses and plateaus, etc. But for the last month I have had a terrible time. I had a fill and am thinking that it must be too tight!? I can only eat 3-4 bites and then my pouch area hurts like crazy...followed by burping and the hiccups and discomfort. This even happens when I drink water! I know that I am not getting enough Protein or anything! I think I have to get a little taken out so that I can be more comfortable...I basically don't want to eat and have seen a decline in my energy and desire to do things. I was trying to "go" with it at least until me next appt but don't think I can make it. Does anyone have any tips on how to cope with this??:)

Go back and get unfilled.

It's not healthy to live like that, the weight loss is not good weight loss (if you even lose, many dont when they're too tight) and you'll rebound when you CAN eat. Just go and get some taken out. This is a slow and steady process, one that you've obviously done very well at so far.

Thank you Jacqui! That is what I am thinking too! I have an appt on Monday afternoon. I usually have a high tolerance for pain, but this is really starting to get to me! Thanks for your support, hope everything is well in your corner of the world!

I agree, it's not good to stay that tight. They can just remove a very tiny bit and I think you will do much better. I hope you can at least drink some Protein Shakes and easy stuff until you get a little unfill.

I just had .2ccs removed after trying to hold on to it for 7 months a little too tight. It makes a world of difference, get a small amount taken out and if you still have trouble have a tiny bit more taken out.

Coming from someone who had something like this, get yourself checked. I had this exact same thing for 2 weeks and then discovered I couldn't drink anything and that my band slipped and had to have surgery. Don't want to scare you but get it checked.

I, also, had this problem. The surgeon thought that my band had slipped, he did a total unfill. I was fine, then after a month he checked na I was not slipped. He gave me a partial fill as I was eating everything but the "kitchen sink". I am still a little hungrier than before, but I can eat most everything now, without pain. I can't eat most pastas, however, which is not a great loss!

Hang in there, have a slight unfill and see how you do. Karen(kll724).

If it's been a month since your fill, sounds like you are overfilled. It shouldn't hurt to eat (unless you aren't taking small bites or chewing well). You should be able to eat more than '3-4 bites'.

Thank you to all of you who have responded. It is so great to know that there are other people going through similar things!! I decided after throwing up at midnight last night (hadn't eaten for 4-5 hrs) that I would just do liquids today...even those cause pain so I am curious that there's something more going on than just being tight. I hope not, but am glad to have my appt tomorrow afternoon. On the upside I lost 2 more lbs and am 1 lb away from losing 100!!! This isn't exactly the way I wanted to get it done, but I guess it's a nice side effect!! Thanks again for the support. Have a glorious day!

Being too tight and vomiting can lead to a slip, which we don't want.

Congrats on approaching the century mark! yay!

I was overfilled once. It was a miserable exisitence. You run the risk of turning to high calorie/low nutrient sliders to get you through.

Hopefully they'll just remove a little bit, and that will give you enough relief that you can eat right and still lose.

Keep us posted how tomorrow goes!

Yes, that is exactly how I hit my century mark. I have since gained back about 6 lbs, but that was because I was actually not getting anything to stay down. I hoe that your apt tomorrow will give you some relieve. Good luck.

That is the good part, but please believe me when I say, I was so relieved to have the pressure removed from my fill, and it was 3 months old. I did not think that after 3 months, I would start swelling and not get anything to pass thru my band. I am better now, I have 2 1/4 ccs in my band. Karen(kll724)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
