Being Banded In Dec, Few questions about skin/exercise

Recommended Posts

I think it is a good idea to wait at least a year after you reach your goal to judge where your skin issues are. If there is going to be any bouncing back it needs time.Cherie don't get yourself too worried about things that may not happen with you. You are going toward this with a great attitude and learning all you can. You will do very well and I am so happy for you!

I would just like to add something about sun damage. I come from a generation where tanning was a big deal. We used to lay in the sun with baby oil on. I was very tan every summer for many years. Now we know better about sun damage. I still have it in my brain that I look better tan, but I have changed my ways. Better late than never, but the damage is done.

Through high school im known as the pale girl.

Im not really a tanner, i have twice, but it was to help my skin heal, i know girls who tan and they have nicer skin. I know long term its bad, but its fine i've never been a big tanner. :)

I'm one of those girls who pale suits them. :wink2:

First of all, I am hoping to be a December bandster too so hoooray for us both! LOL.

Secondly, I think its awesome that you are already visualizing a slimmer, sexier, healthier you and you're preparing for the potential loose skin.

But like someone else said, at your age I think you will probably not have much of an issue with bouncing back. There may be some loose skin, but probably not a whole lot.

And like someone else said, I'd rather be thin with loose skin, than fit in the amount of skin i got now!! lol

Good luck!

I am going to be banded on December 27th , this is my 2nd attempt the first one couldnt be done because of a tumor they found , but I wont quite !!

I have had 5 kids so I have a belly but I have been working out and regardless I have some "clinging" skin . My trainor told me to exercise to keep firm before the surgery and then after to keep it up as the weight is lost .

I wish us the best of luck for success !!

I am replying based on my sister's experience. Before the surgery she started doing all kinds of exercises, stretching etc. She used jugs of Water, cans, etc. so didn't spend money on it. She continued doing that after the surgery and she also used the cocoa butter lotion the whole time to avoid as many problems as possible. It did help her a lot. She would still like to get surgery to take off some of the extra skin etc, but really for losing over 100 lbs she looks great. I can only hope to have the same experience.

I'm 19 so I definitely know what you're going through! It sucks to think about the possibility of having all this hanging skin, but in the end you're so much more healthy. It all depends on how long you've been overweight, by how much, genetics, etc.

I have 40lbs+ (maybe 50 if I wanna push it) to lose and my skin is doing soso. I don't think I'll have a flat tummy ever and I can tell there will be skin there. But I can say it looks better then I thought it would, but in the end I am definitely saving for plastic surgery. I'm oddly excited to go through that phase..but that'll come in time.

Only thing I suggest is staying hydrated and toning (weight-lifting) as well as cardio. It's important to build muscle and it can really help. Start with light weights and build up. I've been using 15lb weights and I'm starting my routine over with 20lb dumbbells this time.

Best of luck and feel feel to message me if you have any questions

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
