After you have reached your goal....

Recommended Posts

I was talking to my Dr. about how often I should come in, after the first year of monthly visits. According to her, over 90% of the people they've operated on don't go back after they reach their goal weight.

If you've reached your goal already, are you still seeing your surgeon periodically for check ups or anything?

You should still see your Dr at least once a year.

Not at goal here, but I don't go every month either. They all do it different.

I last saw my doctor in July. I had exceeded my weight loss goal at that time, and he OK'd me losing more if I wanted. We scheduled the next appointment for July 2011, unless I have problems or need a fill before that.

Definitely, I go back once or twice a year. I've had top up fills and now I need an unfill for another surgery, I will go in in a week or two to discuss it - whether they want to unfill me all at once, or take me down gradually over the next month, what I can expect, how I should manage things, when I can be refilled. I want my mind put at rest over this, although truth be told, I think I will be absolutely fine with no fill.

But that's what my doc is for, and I dont feel that just because I'm at goal I can forget I have a lapband inside me, I want it there, healthy and sound and part of that is keeping on top of things like regular check ups.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
