Post-op Recovery time for energy levels ??

Recommended Posts

I had my gallbladder out about 2 weeks ago and have not yet returned to anywhere near normal energy levels. A 5 min walk on my treadmill (very slow speed) is about all I can do. I go back to work next week and worry that I won't make it through the parking lot to my office!

Am I expecting too much in only 2 weeks? I've read here, and elsewhere, that lap gallbladder operations are a snap and an easy recovery - even more so than the lap band which I was considering too. As a result, I'm concerned that something isn't right with the operation. The doc said it was a difficult one for him and he wouldn't have done the lapband at the same time. I'm no spring chicken - male 63 and 375lbs (down 35 since July when the gallbladder started acting up). I'm eating pretty well, very low portions as I'm just not hungry like before, and still losing weight.

Any suggestions?

Gallbladder surgery is very hard on non obese people, and it takes about a month to start to feel normal, from what Ive known (3) persons. I would still give my Dr. a call to be sure. Take you temperature beforhand as I am sure they are going to ask you that. Are you drinking enough Water, just plain water, not tea, coffee, and the like? Water is necessary to cleans your liver and body of the anesthesia. You might also see a white coat on your tounge, drink more water. Im glad you can walk about and at least attempt the treadmill, are you winded or just tired. If you are really winded, I would call my Dr. asap as this is just one of the symptoms of a heart complication. I hope you feel better soon, and please keep us posted, I would like to hear from you soon.

I had my gallbladder out six years ago, and I was just banded 12/12. I had a difficult surgery for both. My gallbladder had not moved back into position (I had just had a baby) so that made the surgery harder. I was in bed for 1 week taking a lot of pain medicaiton.

My Lapband was put in this week, and I feel great!!! I was prepaired for the same pain as my gallbladder but it is nothing like that. My surgen said that because she had a hard time getting the band in my body that I would have some extra pain from that. I have been moving and able to do things on my own even in the hospital this time. The nurses kept telling me to slow down and rest.

Hope this helps!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
