:confused:Hello Please help.

I am scheduled to have the LAP-BAND® surgery on December 15th. RIght before Christmas. My concern is am I going to be able to move around for the holidays. I usually cook a big Breakfast for my family, I know I am not going 2 be able to eat but I would like to cook for them on the 25th. Will I be able to do so?

You should be fine, though you shouldn't do heavy lifting (make someone else put the ham or turkey in/out of the oven). By 10 days out you'll most likely feel closer to normal again.

You should be fine. I have 3 kids ages 6 months, 3 years and 10 years. I had surgery on a Friday and by Sunday I was totally caring for them by myself again with no help.

That depends on your doctor's protocols.

By MY doctor's guidelines, by 10 days you would be on full liquids, which is anything that you can draw through a straw (but he says NOT to use a straw to avoid getting air and causing gas issues).

You can't strictly go by what others have experienced, just as a guideline or general rule. Every doctor is different in their recommendations or orders, just as every patient is different.

Congrats on your date. You'll do fine.

(personally, I'd do the Breakfast casserole type thing where you can make it up the night before and in the morning all someone would have to do is put it in the oven and turn it on. You might even consider making it up ahead of time and putting it in the freezer in case you are one of the few who take longer to feel better after surgery. I was one of those.. took me 2 weeks to feel normal again. )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
