I just went to a Federal Courthouse and had a really hard time getting into the building. My whole mid-section kept lighting up and setting off the system. After 5-6 tries and wand scans I mentioned I had surgery several months ago and they said that was probably it. They also suggested my doctor do an x-ray to make sure they didn't leave anything inside. Has this happened to anyone else?

You didn't have any wire in your bra did you? If so that will do it every day. The band isn't metal so if that set it off I'd get an xray just to be sure.

I'm pretty sure the port prongs are metal (at least with the Realize Band)-- maybe that's it?

I was told that the port has titanium in it which can set off metal detectors. I carry a card from the manufacturer that explains that I have a sugical implant.

I've been through airport metal detectors with my band and nothing has gone off but I have the Allergan band. Not sure if you might have the Realize Band but I know it has hooks that hold your port into place.

I'm curious now if whether or not I beep in a metal detector!

I just flew on Friday and had no issue. Well, they stole my 2 tiny fruit cup cans. I guess they felt I might hurt someone with a piece of pineapple. LOL

I have been into both court houses and through airport security several times and have never had an issue.

My doctors office gave me a card to carry with just in case I set off a detector. Won't have my band until Nov 17th, but I fly sometimes for work so glad I'll have it just in case.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
