anyone have ulcers with the lap band?

Recommended Posts

I have ulcers and I let my doctor know that I had them. I read that you can't get the lap band if you have ulcers. has anyone heard anything like this? Please tell me this is not true. I am on my last step just waiting on my approval from the insurance company. I have been looking forward to this journey and now it's possible that it won't happen? Someone please give me some answers.... Thanks!

I just answered this in another thread, but here's my story.

I had no idea I had an ulcer, until the surgeon did my required pre-op EGD. He found an ulcer, and treated me with next week. 3 weeks later, he repeated the EGD, saw the ulcer was healed and scheduled my surgery. The process did delay my surgery by about 6 weeks, but other than that, no problems.

I have found that I am very sensitive to fills and if I get more than .5 cc at a time, I have reflux issues. I'm not sure if it's related to the ulcer or not, but I watch things very closely and don't keep my band too tight.

My band has been great for me. I'm so glad that my ulcer didn't cause any problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
